Seriously?!?!?!?!?!

As an art history major, I found this just a little disturbing, and luckily it coincided with my other major, journalism. Apparently the Yale Daily News published a rather interesting piece today. The story was by an art student who said she self induced miscarriages in order to collect and use the blood in her art work. After the shock waves calmed down it was revealed that the story was a hoax, just another element in this girls art project.
So as an art history major, I see her point. I might not agree with it, but its really nothing new in the art world. I can think of a few current artists who are utilizing blood in their work. One artist castes human heads in frozen blood, and then films them melting. Apparently the Yale artist was tying to raise awareness of the connection between art and the human body. Whether this trend in art is really effective is just going to have to wait 50-100 years, this is art after all.
As a journalism major, I do have some qualms, mostly in the form of fact checking. Personally if this girl approached me with her story I would be tempted to go straight to print. I mean it is quite a sensational story. But I'm quite happy to say that I would have made quite sure she wasn't jerking my chain. Oh well, look like every campus press has their day I guess.

Bloody...
