So that was pretty much the easiest thing I've done so far in Journalism. All it took to see my name in a byline was providing basic informationand a few clicks of the mouse, and I am now a published journalist. This is really quite amusing, and also very cool.
It was also interesting to see the effect of citizen journalism. I mean the community really comes together. Providing a much more intimate view into the city in which I live. Something I feel is lacking in the major publications.
Overall this was a very entertaing way to get published. If only it were this easy all the time!

Excuse me?
So I was reading about the shooting in Illinois today in the Denver Post, which was pretty decent coverage...then I decided to check out the coverage in th New York Times.
My immediate reaction was "excuse me?"
The NY Times used a delayed lead. I mean it was effective, but hardly tasteful. Something that breaking, that important should not have the scene set for it. The Denver Post on the other hand, put all the facts out there in the first graph. It just felt to me like the NY Times was sensationalizing the story...I just don't think thats appropriate in this circumstance.
